Helping Our Test Customers to do Their Job Better, Save Money, and Make Their Boss Happy

No. 2 in a Series:
How to Save Our Customers Money

There are many available steps which customers can take to reduce the costs of environmental testing:

Customers can provide cables, mounting fixtures, test instrumentation, etc. as available.
Request a letter report in lieu of a test report. Letter reports can be provided at no charge for most tests.
Operating of customer equipment, while under test, by a customer representative, can for complex items, be a potential cost saver.
Evaluate the use of certain Department of Defense approved test fixtures and specifications, which allow the reduction of the number of shock blows, for example, from 9 to 6 blows.
For testing of multiple items, increase the quantity per test lot.
Where multiple tests are performed, such as shock and vibration, specify a single test report rather than two separate reports.
On complex items some pretesting may be advantageous to reduce the amount of testing in the event of a failure later in the program. This is important because in the event of a failure, the entire test will likely have to be repeated at added cost. Pretesting may highlight any potential failure modes early in the program.
